What is the Maritime Forest?

Sulllivan’s Island’s beach is growing (accreting) and that’s made it possible for a beautiful, protective, maritime forest to flourish.

Why We Must Stop the Chop!

Climate change is accelerating. The Maritime Forest provides hurricane storm surge protection, resilience and incredible natural beauty.

Legal Expert: Maritime Forest Settlement is "Invalid and Unenforceable"

A former federal judge hired by the Town of Sullivan's Island reviewed the controversial mediation settlement and found it to be "invalid and unenforceable."

Council Taking Action

SI Town Council is holding a Special Meeting to discuss the Maritime forest on Wednesday, September 29 at 5pm.

Town Council Urged to Act NOW

URGENT: Tell town council members to ask for a judicial review of the controversial settlement agreement that is designed to cut down the Sullivan's Island Maritime Forest.

Big Win: What You Can Do Next!

On May 4, the voters of Sullivan’s Island came out in record-breaking numbers to voice their support for saving the maritime forest and elect a pro-conservation slate of candidates to Town Council. This is an important first step, but more urgent work remains!

Three Things You Can Do to Stop the Chop!

The deforestation of Sullivan’s Island is much larger than just an “island” issue. This land was put into a public trust for the benefit and enjoyment of ALL of us — and decisions on how our maritime forest is managed, should not be left in the hands of two private homeowners who want ocean views and breezes. Please Help us Stop the Chop!

Make Your Voice Heard

Together we can let our elected officials and permitting agencies know that destroying the maritime forest isn’t good for anyone. Putting ocean views above nature, wildlife, hurricane storm surge protection and community resilience cannot be allowed.
